Add a Left-Turn Signal at 152 St & 99 Ave in Surrey to Prevent Accidents
The Issue
Every day, hundreds of drivers and pedestrians use the intersection on 152 St & 99 Ave in Surrey to access a community with two schools and a neighbourhood. During peak hours, before school starts, turning left into 99 Ave is both frustrating and dangerous. Cars quickly pile up in the morning as it is one of the only ways to access the schools, resulting in 2-3 cars turning on the red light which can be dangerous as pedestrians are crossing at the same time.
In 2024 alone, there were 6 reported casualties by the ICBC and this number may increase as the population of this community continues to grow. This number is concerning as left turns mostly occur in the morning and the ratio of casualties to cars turning is higher than the 4-way intersection behind it. If this issue does not get resolved, the wait times will be even higher and the risk of an accident will become evident as parents are pressured by their kids to arrive on time.
As a member of this community, I have been greatly affected by this issue. Over the years, the size of the community has grown. The high school's population has significantly increased, and it will continue to grow. Every teacher, parent, student, or driver deserves to come home safely. A simple left-turn signal can help prevent close calls and improve the quality of life.
Please sign to make this community a safer place and help support student education.
