Shut down shark fishing competitions in NSW

A NSW Game Fishing Club held a tournament this weekend.
They encouraged members to capture and kill sharks, aiming for the large, breeding members of the species. There was a specific ‘mako challenge’.
Mako sharks are rated by the IUCN as endangered. This tournament also displayed images of dead Tiger sharks which are rated as Near Threatened. The sharks appear to have their heads cut off (presumably for ‘trophy’ jaws) and their bodies are discarded.
Humans kill 100 million sharks a year and most species are considered endangered to some degree. Most large sharks are unsuitable for eating due to high levels of heavy metals.
This tournament is sponsored by Bendigo Bank.
We need to target these environmental destruction and cruelty in several ways:
1. Write/email/social media post to Bendigo Bank, asking them to withdraw sponsorship of such tournaments and clubs which support shark killing. Ask them why they are sponsoring an event targeting threatened species and involving animal cruelty. Encourage them to create stringent guidelines for sponsorship of community activities/clubs
2. Write to Adam Marshall the NSW Minister for Agriculture and ask him to make these competitions illegal. Write to Emma Hurst, NSW politician for the Animal Justice Party and ask her to propose this in a motion.
