Murray Butcher Barkidnji Elder - Hello all you wiimpatjas and murdies of the river...these pics are of the state of the river below Menindee. A chain of waterholes and dry river for the whole length of the Darling to probably near Wentworth. Hundreds of km of a permanent river dry as a bone. This is mainly a man made disaster due to mismanagement of our rivers. I call on all us river people all along our river to join forces to fight these big irrigators, government and water boards to do the right thing by our land and waters. Although there are other groups fighting for our river we also need to start being active and be a voice for our land and water it needs us. Can you discuss with your families and friends the situation of our river and somehow we bring us all together to start the fight for our way of life our culture our lands. If we stand back as we did and do nothing this will only get worse for us all. We are at a disadvantage already by being small in number in our local communities and our region is sparsly populated compared to those on the other side of the blue mountains. We need to make the masses aware of what is happening to our river systems in regional Australia. Please i beg you my countrymen and women to stand together and be a voice for our survival as river people and for the health of our river system. Respect to you all... PLEASE CAN EVERYONE SHARE THIS POST FAR AND WIDE TO GET WORD OUT ABOUT OUR RIVERS SITUATION. We visited below Menindee yesterday 12.4.2016 to visit Tartna point to talk about the Moon story at Harcout Station. Unfortunately the gates were shut to the old Pooncarie road and no one was at the homestead to seek permission tto enter but all was not lost. We at least know the general location of this sacred site to our people. All in all it was a productive day. The downside of the trip was seeing the state of our river below Menindee....nothing but dry river bed and chains of shallow stagnant waterholes, mot probably all the way to Wentworth �� truly an environmental disaster!!
