The Issue

We, the undersigned residents, workers and supporters of Stoke‑on‑Trent, are calling for urgent action regarding the incomplete building located on Club Street in Stoke, originally intended to be student accommodation.

Construction on this development began several years ago but was abandoned by the owners in 2018 and has remained in an unfinished, deteriorating state ever since.

The site has now become:

  • An eyesore in a key gateway into Stoke
  • Overgrown with weeds and unmanaged vegetation
  • A location where homeless individuals are sheltering in unsafe conditions
  • A blight on the community, negatively affecting local pride, safety and investment in the area

This building has been left in a dangerous, neglected and unacceptable condition for far too long.

Residents deserve a safe, clean and vibrant community - not a long‑standing derelict structure that continues to deteriorate year after year.

We, the undersigned, request that Stoke-on-Trent City Council:

  1. Take immediate steps to hold the current owners accountable for the neglected condition of the site.
  2. Apply all appropriate legal and planning pressures to ensure the owners either complete the building to an acceptable standard or take alternative action to resolve the site’s current state.
  3. Provide a public update on the plans, timelines and enforcement options available to address this long‑standing issue.

This development has remained unfinished for nearly a decade and the impact on the surrounding area is substantial. We ask the Council to prioritise this matter and work with urgency to ensure this site is no longer allowed to stand as a symbol of neglect within our community.

Stoke‑on‑Trent deserves better.
