Action Needed Against Stolen Dogs and Dog Fighting Rings in Queensland
The issue
We are alarmed by the growing number of stolen dogs and the presence of dog fighting rings in Queensland. These cruel crimes inflict unimaginable pain on innocent animals and cause significant distress & trauma to their loving owners.
There are too many in our community who are experiencing this deep emotional pain & suffering as a result of their beloved pet, that they see as family and not just a pet, being stolen.
Stolen pets are frequently subjected to brutal conditions and used for illegal breeding or fighting, resulting in extreme physical & emotional harm. Despite these actions being illegal, perpetrators often go unpunished or are not sufficiently punished for these crimes.
We want to see relevant local authorities able to allocate resources to actively investigate incidents of dog theft and dog fighting in our region.
We want offenders to face substantial consequences, including significant fines and/or jail time, to serve as an effective deterrent.
And we would like public education campaigns initiated to help residents identify and report dog fighting operations and suspicious activities.
We urge the Government and local authorities to take decisive action to protect our pets, bring perpetrators to justice, and prevent further harm to our community.
