Protect ALL VULNERABLE Seniors: Act Now
I haven't been able to sleep after learning that the Maricopa County Sheriff's office won't press criminal fraud charges against the massage therapist who drove my 83-year-old client to COMMIT SUICIDE!
This woman duped him into giving her his power of attorney, added her to the deed of his house and the titles to his cars. Despite my efforts of filing reports with the Office of the Arizona Attorney General, Adult Protective Services, the Arizona Board of Massage Therapy, and the Maricopa Sheriff’s Office—no action was taken!!!
I was told that because "Mr. Golden" wasn't deemed incompetent, nothing could be done!
In August, He reached out to me, terrified that the woman who had duped him would get him “thrown into a home and take all his money”. I explained to him that since he didn’t want her to get into trouble, and just wanted his belongings back, there was little I could do. He needed to take her to court.
He sounded defeated. He thanked me for all my help and hung up the phone. I felt horrible and raised enough money to hire a private investigator.
The day I hired the PI, I was told that my client took his own life.
I will not let "Mr. Golden" die in vain. This has to STOP; we must protect our vulnerable seniors.
Join Us! Raise your voice. Act now.
Our current Federal and State Vulnerable Adult laws and regulations are not designed to protect all our vulnerable adults. The way the majority of laws and regulations are written now, only a portion of vulnerable adults are protected.
You can help by:
· Sharing www.thegoldenrulemovement.org with others
· Expanding the current definition of “Vulnerable Adult” in Federal and State laws and regulations to include those seniors who are competent yet vulnerable.
· Correcting flaws/loopholes in federal and state laws and regulations that only protect people who are deemed incompetent.
· Educating others that being a vulnerable adult is much more than being incompetent.
We are looking to expand the vulnerable adult laws and regulations to include victims who were subject to:
· Harassment
· Intimidation
· Fear
· Threats or Coercion
· The pressure of unrealistic timelines/deadlines
Or those whose decision- making abilities are compromised by:
· Vision impairments
· Hearing impairments
· Physical disability
· Chronic diseases
· Home insecurity
· Food insecurity
· Financial insecurity
· Social isolation
· Loneliness
