Stuart McMullen started this petition to ACLU and

What is the one single cause of the problems with our society?  Most people will say that it is the breakdown of the family unit.  So we must ask, why are our family units breaking down so easily?  The answer is "no fault divorce".   Ronald Reagan signed into law no fault divorce in California 50 years ago and later said to his son that "signing that bill was one of the worst mistakes of his political career."  Why does this matter?  It matters because children are the ONLY victims of divorce and lawyers are the ONLY winners of divorce.

The result of divorce with children is that one parent becomes the primary custodian of the children and the other parent is reduced to a visitor to their children.  The Standard Possession Order allows the other parent to have possession of the children only 4 overnights per month, 2 hours every Thursday during the school year, and 30 days during the summer.  In Texas, this equates to children being with the primary parent about 80% of their overnights and only 20% of their overnights with the other parent.

This possession schedule is NOT in the best interest of the children.  In fact, experts in child psychology now report that equal or almost equal time with both parents is in the best interest of the child.  They also report that this is true for kids of all ages and even in very high conflict situations.  After 50 years of the government running an experiment with our children, it is time for a change!  Please sign this petition if you want our Texas State Legislators to change the family code to mandate that if both parents are fit, willing, and able to have equal possession, then it is in the best interest of the children to have maximum time with both parents.
