I am a Muslim woman who has lived in the United States for 22 years. Each week of my life here involves a lengthy hour-long trip to a halal store far from my home to get our weekly groceries. This endeavor represents not only my personal struggle but a common difficulty faced by the Muslim community in the United States, who often find that local supermarkets like Walmart and King supers lack easy access to halal foods.

Muslims make up 1.34% of the total US population, making us the third-largest religious group in the country. However, geographical access to hala foods is still an enormous hurdle, with many Muslims driving hours to secure their weekly groceries. This difficulty is not just a matter of convenience, it affects our ability to observe our dietary obligations as Muslims, an essential part of our faith.

Therefore, we appeal for major supermarkets such as Walmart and King Supers to introduce halal food and meat options into their stores. To provide for the dietary needs of their Muslim customer base is not a mere courtesy, but a recognition of the diversity in their clientele, and an acknowledgment of our rights to access religiously appropriate food easily.
