I’m calling on the disabled community, its supporters, and all who believe that there should be equality in air travel, to join in a boycott of United Airlines.
I am doing this because of the blanket refusal by United’s CEO Scott Kirby and his Board, to explain why the airline did not, and does not, make its replacement fleet accessible for all.
More than 3500 members of the disabled community and supporters, have been asking this question since November, 2022; first with the petition you supported, and then with numerous communication updates for four months.
There has was not even been an acknowledgment of receipt of the petition or follow up communications.
This is an insult to all in the disabled community and is just another attempt to silence us by ignoring us.
Boycott
In calling for this boycott, I am not saying United Airlines is the only inaccessible commercial airline (they all are) but late last year United was in a unique position while considering what type of aircraft it would choose for its replacement fleet of several hundred aircraft, to make them accessible for all. When it announced its decision in December, 2022, there was not even an indication that some of the aircraft would be accessible for the disabled community.
Going Forward.
The original petition will be ongoing for those who publicly want to support it, and the boycott call will continue until United Airlines announces publicly a move to ensure accessibility for all.
As it appears United and other airlines are not really interested in full accessibility, other than uttering platitudes every now and then, I next intend to publicly call for all major commercial airline manufacturers to begin planning to produce fully accessible aircraft as standard issue, so that airlines will have no choice but to purchase accessible aircraft. Details of this will follow.
Thank You for your continued support.
