This is a copy of the communication sent to United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby, and his Board Members yesterday.
Dear Scott & United Airlines Board Members:
Can you please let me know if United Airlines will announce soon that it’s replacement fleet which was announced on Tuesday, will be accessible as requested per the petition linked below, and by thousands more over the years, or, will it continue to incorporate features to please the fully abled and ignore the disabled and mobility affected community?
Why I believe in accessibility with a passion:
I have seen, experienced and read about passengers suffering injuries and the indignity from being manhandled on and off aircraft. There are official figures that show thousands of wheelchairs are broken each year being loaded on and off aircraft because wheelchairs are not allowed on board (imagine if the equivalent number of people had their legs broken by airline and airport staff).
People are injured or have to endure being wheeled on substandard and dangerous aisle chairs.
I have had wounds from having to be lifted up and over the armrest even in business class because the armrests don’t move (many disabled people fly business class because there is more room).
Disabled passengers can’t even access aircraft toilets.
From the above you can see why I have no choice but to continue with my campaign.
United Airlines still has the golden opportunity to announce its replacement fleet will be accessible so I can’t understand why it hasn’t. The public also deserve to know.
