The Voting Rights Act of 1965 created the American democracy we all love and enjoy. Through the motion picture Selma and Ledisi's performance of "Precious Lord, Take My Hand", 2015 has provided a great reminder of the majesty of democracy and the struggle endured by those in the 1960's to achieve a true democracy in the United States. Fifty years after the Voting Rights Act was signed into law, honoring that struggle with a live performance of that iconic gospel song will reinforce the overwhelming significance of the story portrayed in the film Selma.
