Dear Members of Academy, Vote to Nominate Avengers: Endgame for Best Picture.
The Issue
Dear Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences along with President David Rubin,
I know it's hard to nominate a blockbuster for Best Picture, But we kindly encourage you and all Members of the Academy to consider and vote giving an Oscar nomination nod to Avengers: Endgame for Best Picture. It doesn't have to win the award, but it deserves to be in consideration for that nomination for a number of following reasons.
Avengers: Endgame might seem like your basic average normal blockbuster popcorn film, But is a film that at least did successfully well with both critics and audiences alike. Not only had it just become the highest-grossing film worldwide of all time, But It did also leave an impact on both critics & audiences with its moments and chemistry along with it. The film isn't just a satisfying conclusion to the universally praised successful Marvel Cinematic Universe(MCU) or Infinity Saga But was a movie developed for many decades that would bring service to critics and audiences alike. Kevin Feige who is the President of Marvel Studios and a last year Best Picture nominee for Black Panther helped give these characters the arcs they deserved over the past 11 years and managed to bring together a huge ensemble that guarantees everyone to at least be a significant role to the film. The movie not only captivated with its storytelling but used a perfect musical score written by Alan Silvestri to help balance the emotion and story all together. The film not only consists of an A-list ensemble but had every actor stay in character and true to the film's story. While there are many performances to talk about, there is actually one that stands out above the rest and at least deserves a mention. For 11 years, Robert Downey Jr had demonstrated the charisma and portrayal of bringing to life the Tony Stark we know and loved from the comics. The character Tony Stark(Iron Man) had become an icon in all of Pop Culture and is pretty relatable thanks to Downey's performance. In Avengers: Endgame, Robert Downey Jr had once again proved why he is born to play Iron Man and actually became portrayed as a great role model in this film. He is a great role model not because he was a great father raising a child of his own, But a Hero to everyone or in this case a father of everyone who is determined to fight for what is right. Even though he killed himself in the process while sacrificing to save the universe, but was given the perfect send-off from every MCU character for acknowledging what he did. Considering to nominate Robert Downey Jr for Avengers: Endgame would at least make up the performance snub 11 years ago for his first portrayal of Tony Stark which was universally praised by critics and audiences
Yes Avengers: Endgame is a blockbuster film, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't get a Best Picture nomination. If you look back at the blockbusters that did receive a Best Picture nom, it could explain why Endgame does deserve that treatment.
Here are some examples of the blockbusters that were nominated for Best Picture over the years:
Jaws(1975)
Star Wars(1977)
Raiders of the Lost Ark(1981)
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial(1982)
Titanic(1997)
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy(2001-2003)
Avatar(2009)
Inception(2010)
Toy Story 3(2010)
Gravity(2013)
Mad Max: Fury Road(2015)
The Martian(2015)
Get Out(2017)
Dunkirk(2017)
Black Panther(2018)
Bohemian Rhapsody(2018)
Avengers: Endgame, on the other hand, had done better in many areas. We're not asking you to nominate it for fan service purposes, but nominate it for the emotional storytelling and strong messages it had displayed throughout the film. On behalf of all of us, I hope you can take this contender seriously and eventually at least dedicate it to the late Stan Lee and all of the Marvel & Walt Disney staff who worked so hard to bring this together. Thank you for reading this and hopefully see this as a reason why to consider the film.
