Our hard work getting over 10,000 signatures against the aged care inheritance and super tax worked to delay but not kill it entirely. We need your help because the aged care lobbying has started up again to get an unpopular tax into parliament before an election!

URGENT - before June 30 -  contact your local member here and say you and everyone you know say NO aged care tax , NO super or inheritance tax and dont support the aged care taskforce recommendations or a legally unenforceable weak aged care act!

Thank you for helping our mums dads and friends in your community , and future generations not have to pay for care they won’t even get ! Alwyn Blayse campaign coordinator #saveoursuper, aged care  advocate and physiotherapist

More information for those with the time

Why do we need you to contact your local member this week? Because aged care providers already are, after a call to action from  their peak body ceo who is confident if they do that despite public outrage they can still get their greedy mitts on our super and kids inheritance !

Sounds like a done deal here from ACCPA (age care and community provider association 95% providers in) CEO Tom symondson June 21, doesn’t it?

https://www.australianageingagenda.com.au/executive/new-legislation-expected-soon/

Sorry Tom but it’s NOT a done deal and you know it! You’re nervous and trying to keep your job with many aged care providers not happy you haven’t gotten this tax through already even though you were on the taskforce and stood with the aged care minister when it was released! It’s also why the same day June 21, you said you are confident will also be passed you begged and even “told” aged care providers (who elect you btw) to support the legislation even if they don’t agree with it and begged them to stop speaking out against!  (see article below)

Its also why you’re starting up the spin machine again, you’re worried and so are those you represent who are demanding you get this done!

Because you and your corporate overlords know that people power and even minimal media attention (including this petition ) in part led to this unpopular taskforce report and its accompanying aged care act being delayed and pushed back. First from last year over Christmas break when they said would be end November . Then until march because the government knew it was unpopular politically and didn’t want it affecting by election. Then no amount of lobbying pre may budget got in when everyone was saying  it would. And we don’t have an Aged care act July 1 2024 because the minister had to back down saying would happen when it clearly wasn’t ready and they could just add what they liked afterwards.

At every point Tom you and aged care providers have tried to con the public and get this across the line with money and influence, but nervous and or ethical politicians actually hearing from the public made them blink and reconsider.

Tom even had to admit many aged care providers themselves were negative about the tax and he blames them for not getting it passed by spooking opposition ministers.

“I have had so many conversations with opposition members of parliament, government members of parliament, where they’re saying, ‘Oh, someone from the sector came and said that the sector doesn’t like this bit of the taskforce [report]’. You might think you’re helping [but] that has almost killed it about 15 times. Please just say you support the package,” he told delegates on Thursday.

REMEMBER same day he said above he was confident this act and funding would get passed !

Which itself shows you how he and providers think - that CEO’s of aged care providers should be in charge , and will if they can act together decide whether a tax passes, rather than the public and our representatives we elect to reflect our wishes

And no member of the public I’ve heard on talkback, online or in person buys the taskforce recommendations “older people are increasingly wealthy” and we are happy to trust our super and kids' inheritance will be passed on to better care for older people. No advocate groups are happy with it either, or even a taskforce member Margaret Walsh has spoken out against the report she released which was changed in its final form without her input. CEOs of advocate groups opan and Cota were there too but we can’t even see what they said and they aren’t allowed to say. But we know that what they can say is concerning.

We know from what we’ve seen and heard including a royal commission who this taskforce ignored that aged care providers can’t be trusted to look after older people unless they are accountable and transparent. And the damning consultant's inquiry report into conflicts of interest which included consultants working for both providers and department health and ageing, and the aged care quality safety commission show we have a long to go.

We have shown we can stop this, and we need to keep going. We can’t let rich providers, use lobbyists consultants and pressure both sides of politics to get this mockery of an aged care act through as it stands.

Tom has asked providers to speak to their local members. If you don’t think we should have an aged care super and inheritance tax, and an aged care act that isn’t even legally enforceable please do the same and say to your local member. And when you do (it’s easy! See link below) as clearly as Tom tells his members to say they support the aged care act and taskforce recommendations , you DON’T!!!

Look up your local pollie here Find my local federal electorate and member

And when you do speak to them don’t worry if you don’t know detail , that’s not your job that’s your local members to convince you why this is a good thing when so many including over 10000 on this petition say it’s not! And be sure to mention to the member your electorate trusted to represent  how many you’ve spoken to from their electorate who feel the same way you do.

Then when the same rep gets the knock-on door from lobbyists and reads pro aged care provider propaganda, they may just think twice. Or actually pick up the phone and tell aged care minister anika wells or Albo, no way ! I’ll lose my electorate and job over this aged care tax!

If we don’t speak up now, we let greedy providers steal our kid's inheritance, our hard-earned super that’s supposed to fund our retirement lifestyle and care and be able to go to our kids.

I’ve heard Tom symondson and many providers at different forums including June last year at a hush hush financial sustainability conference run by his aged care association just before the aged care taskforce met. I can’t say what we said and by who but I can say it was pure unadulterated greed I saw by out of touch old white make ceos like Tom who think they can buy their way to anything they want by tricking a gullible public they detest.

Lets show them Abraham Lincoln was right. Speak to your local member and say you want fool all of us all the time , and we are over corporate greed hurting our mums dads and friends in our communities!

And please keep sharing and encouraging others to sign this petition. If your local member is good ask them to send it out for you . We need as many as we can so we can lodge at the senate with as many signatures possible that no amount of money and confidence will Tom be right .

Because we care about older people we demand a hunan-rights based aged care act and

 #saveoursuper #noagedcaretax #noinheritancetax

Thank you for all you do to help older people get the care they need and deserve
