Abolish Unnecessary Fines Imposed by Train Employees

The Issue

Every day, I, like countless others, utilize the train to commute to work, visit family, or simply travel from place to place.  However, an ongoing issue has been an eyesore on these essential trips - unnecessary fines. Numerous train employees have made it their habit to issue fines for reasons that are clearly beyond the scope of common sense and fairness.

Teenagers were even fined after leaving the arrival station for not having a ticket due to the ticket machines being out of order at the departing station the fine was appealed but not accepted, we later found out that those under 18 should only be issued a penalty fair on their second offence however this being the first they were fined over £100. As well as this, a dyslexic student, Oliver Edwards was issued a fine because he couldn’t read to buy a ticket despite asking train employees for help FOUR times.

The National Ratepayers' Rights Association reports that a staggering 75% of commuter complaints in 2020 were about unfair fines applied by train staff. It's a widespread problem that infringes on commuter rights and turns what should be a pleasant travel experience into a frustrating hassle.

Therefore, we are calling for an immediate review and rethink of the current practices. We urge the people in charge to cease these petty fines and work towards establishing a fair and friendly commuting environment.
End the unwarranted financial burden on commuters caused by overzealous train employees. Sign this petition to show your support in abolishing unintelligible fines and promoting a peaceful commute for all.
