The Issue

As a business owner (bubblesdontcount.com) supporting the wineries of the Okanagan, I am deeply concerned about the new value-based tax imposed by Alberta that is affecting both BC wineries and Albertan consumers. The tax, which can reach up to 15%, is coupled with a $4.11/L flat fee, significantly inflating wine prices. This policy poses a threat to our livelihoods, harms the growth of Canadian wine industries, and disrupts free trade between provinces.

The Alberta government has initiated a tax policy that not only places an undue burden on BC wine producers but also heavily impacts consumers in Alberta who appreciate and support Canadian wines. By driving up prices and complicating distribution, this tax policy endangers businesses and consumers alike, creating unnecessary barriers in our shared economy.

The Canadian wine industry is burgeoning, with BC wineries playing an essential role. These wineries contribute significantly to Canada's economy, supporting local jobs, tourism, and trade. Curtailing their growth with punitive taxes undermines our collective progress towards a unified, prosperous nation.

**We urge the Alberta government to:**

1. **Repeal or revise** this punitive tax to ensure fairness and equity in wine pricing.
2. **Support interprovincial trade**, aiding the free flow of goods and bolstering Canadian wineries across provincial lines.
3. **Keep wine affordable** for all Albertans, maintaining the provincial love for locally produced goods.

Your signature can help protect the economic interests of both BC wine producers and Alberta consumers, fostering a spirit of unity and cooperation across provincial borders. Let’s champion fair trade and support our local entrepreneurs and businesses. Sign this petition to stand up for BC producers, Alberta consumers, and free trade within Canada.
