MEDIA STATEMENT – FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST & PUBLICATION

By Tessa Murphy

The issue facing the United Kingdom today is not tradition—it is accountability.

The widely reported conduct and legal settlement involving Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has exposed a fundamental truth: the monarchy operates within a system that protects status over justice and privilege over transparency. While ordinary citizens are expected to face full public scrutiny, members of the royal family are shielded by wealth, influence, and inherited power.

This is not about personal attacks.

This is about public trust.

A democratic society cannot credibly maintain an unelected, hereditary institution that exists above the standards applied to everyone else. Titles, silence, and quiet withdrawals from public duty are not accountability. They are avoidance.

The monarchy no longer reflects modern democratic values, equality before the law, or public responsibility. It is time for the United Kingdom to move forward and replace the monarchy with a democratic republic, where leadership is earned, not inherited—and where no one is untouchable.

I am calling on the public to sign and share my petition to abolish the monarchy and establish a republic built on transparency, accountability, and equal justice.

This is not radical. This is democratic.

The future of the United Kingdom should belong to its people—not to a bloodline.
