Abolish the Code Prohibiting Commercial Vehicle Parking in Residential Driveways

The Issue

Robert Cochero is a resident of Freeport, NY, and I am directly affected by a local ordinance that prohibits the parking of commercial vehicles in residential driveways. This code has had a negative economic impact on my family and me as our commercial vehicle is our primary means of income.

This law not only affects my family but also many others who rely on their commercial vehicles for their livelihood. It forces us to find alternative parking solutions which often come with additional costs and inconvenience. This situation becomes even more challenging during harsh weather conditions when we need to ensure the safety of our vehicles.

According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Freeport has over 43,000 residents with a significant number involved in trades that may require commercial vehicles such as construction, plumbing or electrical work. Thus, this issue potentially impacts a substantial portion of our community.

We understand that there may be aesthetic concerns related to commercial vehicle parking in residential areas; however, we believe there are ways these can be addressed without causing financial hardship for families like mine.

We urge local authorities to reconsider this code and explore alternatives that balance aesthetics with economic realities faced by working families who depend on these vehicles for their livelihoods. Please sign this petition if you support abolishing the code prohibiting commercial vehicle parking in residential driveways in Freeport.
