The Issue

Our homes should never be a tool for politicians to spend our money without any regard to those they're affecting, but that's exactly what's happening across the state of Kansas as well as America. Property taxes have become a burden that continuously threatens our homes and livelihoods. This issue is not just personal—it's pervasive, affecting countless families who are struggling to make ends meet while municipal governments engage in wasteful and redundant spending.

Property taxes are inherently unfair. They don't account for the individual's financial circumstances, meaning that even those with limited incomes can be forced out of their homes due to escalating taxes. This has a ripple effect on communities, driving up housing costs and destabilizing families who have worked hard to build their homes.

Our state and country should consider more equitable solutions to funding public services, such as a use tax, a gas tax, an income tax, and/or a sales tax. These alternatives provide a more balanced way to support necessary public expenditures without the disproportionate weight being felt by homeowners.

Switching to these forms of taxation can also make fiscal policy more accountable. When expenditure spending is linked closer to the actual usage or income levels rather than a flat property-based tax, it encourages governments to wisely allocate resources.

We call upon local and federal lawmakers to explore these alternatives and take action against property taxes. It is time to abolish property taxes in Kansas and across America and replace them with more sustainable and fair options that do not unfairly penalize those striving to maintain their lives in their homes.

Please sign this petition to support a more equitable tax system that protects homeowners and enhances the accountability of government expenditures.
