Abolish Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTN) barriers in Kings Heath – Autumn 2024

Abolish Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTN) barriers in Kings Heath – Autumn 2024
The Issue
PLEASE SHARE THIS PETITION
We are asking for Birmingham City Council to review and abolish the Kings Heath and Moseley LTN for the following reasons:
In Jan. 2023, Birmingham City Council Cabinet were misled when they voted to approve this scheme. Comparisons were made to an LTN scheme in Walthamstow, London. Unlike Kings Heath, Walthamstow did not have busy strategic through route such as the A435 High Street which serves as a main artery between the city centre and the south. Also, Walthamstow didn't have a busy strategic outer circle ring road like the A4040 which includes Vicarage Road, Howard Road and Wheelers Lane.
Further increase traffic congestion, driver frustration and vehicle emissions on roads where there are schools and highest pedestrian flows.
Further expose school children and pedestrians to increased risk to injury or death and higher harmful vehicle emissions.
Further negatively impact on the local economy.
Continue to divide the community.
Numerous business and resident surveys, including the Council’s own, have shown a significant majority opposed.
Will result in longer journeys with more emissions, working against the climate emergency and Net Zero agenda.
There has been inadequate consultation excluding large sections of the community.
Previous stated ‘Success Indicators’ for Phase 1 have not been achieved and have effectively been ignored. To suggest they will be monitored over time is a fudge as it was understood they were there to inform a case for proceeding with Phase 2.
The result of this petition will be submitted to Birmingham City Council.
Please be aware Councillor David Barker for Brandwood & Kings Heath has uploaded a Change.org survey requesting that delivery of the Kings Heath & Moseley LTN be speeded up.
