Growing up, I faced consistent pressure and stress due to Sparx Maths – an online platform that promises to help students excel in mathematics. As a First-Class Honour Scholar, I found myself sitting in detention every week because the questions were beyond my understanding. If such a program can be overwhelming for someone like me, imagine the undue anxiety and exhaustion it causes on countless young learners attempting to survive the educational system.

Sparx Maths, though designed with good intentions, often leaves students drowning in endless assignments, causing stress and a detrimental impact on their academic confidence. Studies have shown that excessive homework from platforms like Sparx can lead to burnout, reduction in mental well-being, and even poorer academic performance. According to a study by Stanford University, 56% of students considered homework a primary source of stress, and 43% cited homework as the reason they develop physical symptoms, including headaches and sleep deprivation. This clearly indicates that the current schoolwork framework is counterproductive.

The time spent on unending Sparx Maths homework can be better utilized in diverse educational activities that stimulate creativity, innovation, and emotional intelligence. Instead of countless hours on repetitive tasks, students deserve breaks and opportunities to engage socially, which are crucial for healthy development and learning.

We urge educational institutions to reconsider their reliance on Sparx Maths for homework assignments. Let’s introduce leniency by reducing homework load, so students can foster independent learning at their own pace, and develop holistic skills that prepare them for real-life challenges, not just exams.
