Abolish Divorce Fees for Domestic Abuse Victims

Abolish Divorce Fees for Domestic Abuse Victims
The Issue
Twenty years of my life were lost under the heavy hand of abuse. Not merely suffering the hidden scars of physical and emotional attacks, but the darkest wounds of sexual violation as well. In these circumstances, I waged a daily battle, and I represent just a mere fraction of the countless women experiencing the same in this country.
Even after securing the strength to escape this torture, the torment didn’t end. I find myself face-to-face with another nightmare: having to pay a hefty £600 fee just to gain legal separation from my assailant. This is money that should rightfully be utilized to feed my children or create a safe haven for us.
The financial penalties for victims like us are the unkindest blow in our struggle to seek safety and freedom. It is an undeniable fact that women subjected to domestic violence are often financially disadvantaged. According to the Equality and Human Rights Commission, 53% of such women have to face financial issues alongside their trauma.
At this junction, we take a stand. We demand the UK government to abolish this obligatory £600 divorce fee for victims of domestic abuse. It is unjust to place economic burdens on these survivors, further perpetuating their cycle of suffering.
This is a call to liberate countless women from the financial chains of abuse. Sign this petition and become a beacon of hope to empower them with freedom and dignity they deserve.
