Abolish Daylight Savings Time Across the United States

Abolish Daylight Savings Time Across the United States
The Issue
I am personally impacted by the current practice of daylight savings time. Every year, as we "fall back", it feels like our winter nights become longer and more depressing. The little benefit that was once associated with this time change seems to have diminished over the years.
Daylight saving time was originally implemented during World War I to save energy, but today, its effectiveness is highly debated. A study by Matthew J. Kotchen and Laura E. Grant found that daylight saving actually increased residential electricity demand (American Economic Review, 2008). Moreover, it has been linked to negative health effects such as increased risk of heart attacks according to a study published in Open Heart (2014).
The American public also seems ready for a change; a 2019 poll by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found that 7 out of 10 Americans preferred not to switch back-and-forth between standard time and daylight saving time.
It's high time we reconsider this outdated practice which causes more harm than good both for our mental health and energy consumption patterns. Please sign this petition urging lawmakers across the United States to abolish daylight savings time once and for all!
