We've now written to all town councillors alerting them to the petition and the strength of feeling on this matter. A large number of people attending the Council's finance committee and Judith Payne eloquently presented the petition, and several others also spoke on the topic. The councillors refused to answer the questions posed and excluded the public from the discussions relating to the Guildhall. They did promise a public statement the next day but they lied and nothing has appeared so far. The good news is that the councillors do not all agree with the plans. Five councillors have now expressed their support for the petition and I am sure others are waivering. The more we can continue to voice our concerns, the better the chance of the council overturning these plans. So how can you further help make these guys pay attention: 1. Attend the council meeting on 18th October at 7pm. The more people turn up, the harder they listen, and the more they think about how they will vote. 2. Speak at the meeting. Members of the public may speak or ask questions at council meetings provided they email the town clerk (nigel.warner@abingdon.gov.uk) with their intention to speak or the question they wish to ask by 5pm on Monday 16th October 3. E-Mail you local councillors. Just a short email or a telephone call expressing your concern really focuses a councillor's mind when received from someone who can decide whether or not they want to vote for them next time.
