Petition updateRemove Citric Acid Monohydrate from Humira in the United StatesRegistered Nurse with AbbVie Called This Morning

Hello all,
I am overwhelmed and moved to see 968 signatures within a day. Humira is used in pediatric and adult patients in several autoimmune diseases and I am certain that each of you is connected to someone who has used or is currently using the medication.
I would like to update you that an RN from AbbVie called me this morning to advise that they have no information about the release date. The meeting she has recently attended provided only a vague answer; "Not in 2017". That isn't good enough. Patients deserve an answer. She confirmed that indeed the FDA has already approved the new formula (removing citric acid monohydrate) and she is unsure why there is a delay in the release.
Upon speaking to many Humira users, I have heard many conflicting things. That this an FDA issue, that this is a Humira issue, that this is an AbbVie issue. That the FDA is holding up the release, that AbbVie wants to burn through the medication they already have before releasing the new formula, that patents are getting in the way. There are no concrete answers on where the delay is occurring. I urge the FDA and AbbVie to be transparent in their reasoning and to release the new formula as it is in waiting.
The RN was very kind. She stated she would forward my concerns on to her department head. It was at this point I informed her that I had started a petition after receiving no response from the CEO or several other higher ups at AbbVie. I informed her that we had 900 signatures in one day. Since I spoke to her an hour ago we have 68 more. By the time this posts, perhaps we will have more. I feel that if we band together we may be able to show AbbVie that many, many adults and children are struggling, despite all of the tricks up our sleeve to reduce pain. I have been heartbroken to hear the many accounts of children having panic attacks and meltdowns, of them screaming in pain, of the mothers who only wish to fix this but who must inflict pain in order to try to help their child achieve remission. This is unnecessary and it can stop. It will require that the drug company cares more about lessening the suffering of patients than their bottom line. There are many patients who have expressed they will stay on the original formula because it does not cause them pain. That is fine. But those of us with traumatized children who experience real and valid fear and pain deserve the citric acid monohydrate free version NOW. "Soon" has been stated for two years. It's time to act and it's time to do the right thing.
As Americans, we have to fight to see patients as people instead of as dollars and cents. The average cost of Humira in the United States is $57,000.00 per year. I am not moving to reduce the cost. I am not getting in to my views on the health care system. I am only asking for AbbVie to release a medication which has been approved and would greatly help the sufferers of chronic illness.
Keep fighting. Repost. Share. Make your voice heard. Leave your story and your reason for signing. I will fight for you and the people you love.
Best,
Caity
