Let’s Educate Equality has been created as a response to the 34 heads of anglican schools that signed an open letter advocating for their school to retain the right to discriminate against LGBTIQA+ students and staff.
A group of Abbotsleigh alumni have come together to start the Let’s Educate Equality campaign. It is a peaceful protest that aims to promote education around equality for all schools - public or private. It is our way to get students, teachers and parents to join together under one banner to protest discrimination against LGBTIQA+ students and staff in schools.
A peaceful protest has been organised for Saturday 10th November at Wahroonga Park at 9:30am. All patrons are invited to march from Abbotsleigh up the Pacific Highway to Barker College. We will be selling t-shirts and tote bags online to be collected prior to the march for all to wear. The proceeds from the merchandise will be donated to Twenty10, a Sydney-based service working across New South Wales to provide a broad range of specialised services for young people aged 12-25 including housing, mental health, counselling and social support.

This is a peaceful march and an all inclusive event and no discrimination or violence will be tolerated.
We believe all people should be proud to be themselves. No person should be made to feel unwanted, alienated or inferior, especially not in their formative years, and by people they trust.
By publicly endorsing a discriminatory law, these schools are sending a harmful message to vulnerable LGBTIQA+ kids: “We don’t want you here.” LGBTIQA+ students, staff, parents and alumni have made invaluable contributions to their school communities and deserve better than this.
Discrimination is not okay. These school administrations do not speak for the wider school community.
Children should be free to learn and grow without internalising bigotry. Many kids cannot confide in their parents about how they feel, let alone move to a more accepting school. They deserve to know that they are loved and supported.
Join us as we celebrate diversity and show these schools that discrimination has no place in our community!
