We are delighted to see that SCEGGS Darlinghurst has taken a stand against discrimination! Principal Ms Allum has released a letter explicitly rejecting any 'need' to retain the 'right to discriminate' and explaining the school's position on this issue.
Unfortunately, the fact that SCEGGS Darlinghurst did not sign the 'Open Letter' and has instead publicly adopted a strong stance in favour of equality suggests that Abbotsleigh could have followed suit but chose not to. It appears less likely that the Headmistress' hand was forced by the Anglican Church, although we cannot confirm this and are yet to receive a response from the school.
The SCEGGS Darlinghurst community should be applauded for their commitment to diversity and tolerance and for providing a safe and supportive environment for LGBTIQA+ students and staff.
