A World Without Apostasy Laws: A shared manifesto for those committed to freedom of belief
The Issue
In over a dozen countries, it’s still a crime to leave your religion.
People are executed or imprisoned — not for violence, but for thought. For changing their minds. For being honest. For speaking out. For trying to warn others — loved ones, strangers, all of humanity — about the harms they escaped.
These are apostasy laws — and they are one of the worst forms of punishment: not for harm, but for honesty, curiosity, and belief itself.
Why This Matters
Apostasy laws are not just legal relics. They’re active systems of control.
They destroy lives, families, and futures. They kill curiosity and reward fear. And they give individuals confidence to act independent of the state, in place of the state, to deliver the death penalty themselves.
Without the right to question, there is no freedom. Without the freedom to leave, there is no belief — only submission.
The Deeper Issue
But apostasy laws are only symptoms of something deeper. The root cause is a breakdown in scientific thinking — our shared ability to reason honestly, revise beliefs, and place truth above tribe. This mental breakdown shows up in:
- Authoritarianism, religious or secular
- State's charging whistleblowers as if they are traitors
- Social media censorship
- Ideological tribalism
- Punishment for speaking out
We cannot end apostasy laws unless we fix the thinking failure that sustains them.
What We’re Doing
We are a growing coalition committed to ending apostasy laws by addressing their root causes:
✅ Document stories of those affected by apostasy and blasphemy laws
✅ Pressure governments to confront this issue
✅ Defend free speech and open inquiry
✅ Challenge propaganda, censorship, and fear-based narratives
✅ Promote scientific thinking and intellectual freedom
✅ Unite diverse voices — religious, secular, and everything in between
✅ Support other people and organizations tackling the same obstacles we face
We are building a sustained movement to make apostasy a right, not a crime.

The Future We’re Building
A world where no belief is above question.
A world where you can walk away from a faith without fear.
A world where ideas compete fairly — and only the best survive.
A world that recognizes love as the goal and rationality as the method to achieve it.
🕊️ We are not just ending laws. We are upgrading civilization.
Let’s rebuild our world. Together.
