A Pool Isn’t a Luxury – It’s a Lifeline for 100 Mile House

The Issue

🔥 Heatwaves Are Rising. Our Community Deserves a Safe, Affordable Pool Now.

100 Mile House and the surrounding area have been calling for a public indoor swimming pool for decades. Past attempts have fallen through — but with rising summer temperatures, more families moving in, and an urgent need for safe, year-round recreation, it's time to act.

🌡️ Climate Reality

We’re already seeing more heatwaves and extreme weather across the Cariboo. A public indoor pool isn’t just a luxury — it’s part of a climate-resilient community. Seniors, children, people with disabilities, and those without air conditioning need a place to stay cool, active, and safe.

🏊 Why a Pool Matters

• Local families are driving 1–2 hours to access indoor pools in other communities.
• Children need swim lessons — for fun AND drowning prevention.
• Youth, adults, and seniors want healthy, affordable recreation close to home.
• Surrounding communities like 108 Mile, Forest Grove, Lone Butte, and Horse Lake all want access too.

💰 What It Would Cost

The current proposal estimates a base build cost of $2.5M – $3.8M for a basic facility. With all systems and features included, total costs could rise to around $6M

including:
- A 12,000–15,000 sq ft facility
- A heated indoor pool
- Change rooms, gym space, party room, and saunas

With smart planning and support from the Cariboo Regional District (CRD), this could be funded through a regional tax expansion.

🏠 What It Would Cost YOU

If surrounding areas are included (108 Mile, Forest Grove, Horse Lake, etc.), the cost would be spread fairly:
- Estimated $40–$70 per household per year.
- That’s around $3–$6 per month — the cost of one cup of coffee.
- Local fundraising and grants could help reduce this further.

🗺️ Expand the CRD Tax Boundary

We’re asking the CRD to consider including nearby unincorporated areas in the tax boundary for this project. Why? Because families in 108, Horse Lake, and Forest Grove all use 100 Mile services — but right now, they don’t have a say or a stake in this pool. They want it just as bad as everyone “within” city limits.

📣 What You Can Do

• Sign this petition.
• Share it with friends, parents, and seniors.
• Contact your CRD representative and let them know this matters to you.
• Talk about it. At school. At work. On Facebook. At the grocery store.
The more voices we raise, the more pressure we put on decision-makers to act.

It’s time. We’re not asking for a stadium, an arena, or a waterpark. Just a clean, warm, safe pool where everyone — regardless of age or income — can swim, stay active, and stay safe. Let’s make it happen.

This petition will be delivered to the Cariboo Regional District. A formal proposal is being finalized and will be submitted shortly. Thank you for listening to the voices of our community..
