A Plea to International Beverage Holdings: Owners of Speyburn and Knockdhu Distilleries

A Plea to International Beverage Holdings: Owners of Speyburn and Knockdhu Distilleries
The Issue
To the stewards of Speyburn and Knockdhu distilleries,
We, the undersigned, are a community of impassioned whisky lovers who have come to cherish the exceptional spirits crafted under your care. For years, we have celebrated the integrity, craftsmanship, and authenticity of your whiskies, particularly the Speyburn 15 and 18-year-old releases, as well as the now-discontinued AnCnoc 16-year-old. These expressions were a testament to your commitment to quality, being fully natural, un-chill filtered, and bottled at a robust 46% ABV. They stood as shining examples of what whisky can and should be: honest, uncompromising, and deeply rewarding.
It is with heavy hearts that we learned of your decision to alter the presentation of AnCnoc and Speyburn whiskies, moving toward diluted, chill-filtered versions at lower ABV. While we understand the pressures of the market and the need to adapt to changing demands, we fear that this shift may compromise the very qualities that endeared these whiskies to us in the first place. The richness of flavor, the depth of character, and the sense of authenticity that we have come to associate with your brands are at risk of being lost.
We respectfully urge you to reconsider this direction. The whisky community is vast and diverse, but there is a growing segment of enthusiasts who value transparency, tradition, and quality above all else. By maintaining or reintroducing natural, un-chill filtered, and higher ABV expressions, you would not only honor the legacy of your distilleries but also strengthen the loyalty of your most dedicated supporters.
We pledge to continue advocating for the preservation of whisky in its purest form, and we hope that you will join us in this mission. Let us work together to ensure that the spirit of Speyburn and AnCnoc remains as vibrant and uncompromising as the whiskies that first captured our hearts.
With respect and hope,
