A Plea for Relief: Reform Welverdiend into a Separate Estate with Reliable Electricity

The Issue

We, the concerned community members of Welverdiend, Carletonville, South Africa, are petitioning for urgent reform and relief from the prolonged electricity crisis afflicting our community. For over two years, the shared transformer with Extension 5, 6, and Elijah Barayi RDP communities has resulted in frequent power outages, damaging appliances, compromising safety, and claiming lives. As paying customers, we find it unjust to subsidize the electricity needs of non-paying communities. We request that Welverdiend be *REFORMED INTO A SEPARATE ESTATE*, distinct from Extension 5, 6, and Elijah Barayi, with our own dedicated electricity source (transformer). The municipality's inaction has led to decreased property values, increased costs for generators, and undue hardship on the sick and elderly. We believe this situation violates our constitutional rights, including: *Section 24 of the South African Constitution*: the right to an environment that is not harmful to our health or well-being
- *Section 33*: the right to just administrative action, including the right to be treated fairly and have our rights respected. We urge the mayor and municipal officials to take immediate action to reform Welverdiend into a separate estate and provide a reliable electricity source, ensuring our community's well-being and safety.
