A Petition from the Jewish Community of Canada to President Donald J. Trump
The Issue
"Never Again" Must Mean Something. Please Do Not Let Our Ship Be Turned Away.
To the President of the United States of America, the Honorable Donald J. Trump:
Mr. President,
We write to you not as politicians, not as activists, but as frightened families. We are the Jewish citizens, permanent residents, and lawful visa holders of Canada — doctors, engineers, business owners, students, and parents — and we are turning to you because we believe you are the one leader with the courage, the strength, and the moral clarity to hear us.
We have read this chapter of history before, and we know how it ends.
In May 1939, the ocean liner MS St. Louis sailed toward North America carrying more than 900 Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi Germany. They were turned away from Cuba. They were turned away from the United States. And they were turned away from Canada — where a government official infamously declared that, when it came to Jewish refugees, "none is too many." The ship was forced to sail back to Europe. Roughly a quarter of those passengers were later murdered in the Holocaust.
History is not asking us to imagine that moment. We are living a quieter version of it right now — and only you can keep that ship from turning around again.
The situation in Canada has become untenable for Jews.
In 2025, B'nai Brith Canada documented a record 6,800 antisemitic incidents — the highest number since their audit began in 1982. That is an average of more than 18 attacks on Jews every single day, a 145% surge in just three years.
Synagogues have been desecrated. Jewish schools require armed security. The words "Kill all Jews" were scrawled on a university building. Calls to remove Jews from Canada are rising.
The current Liberal government formally recognized a Palestinian state in September 2025, sending an unmistakable signal at the very moment our community was begging for protection.
That same government continues to bring people into this country without screening for the violent, antisemitic ideologies that are now spilling into our streets, our campuses, and our neighborhoods. Hatred is being imported faster than it is being confronted.
We no longer feel safe walking to synagogue. We no longer feel safe letting our children wear a Star of David in public. We are strangers in a country we built, paid taxes to, and loved. And our own leaders have made it clear they will not stand with us.
Mr. President, you are our only realistic hope.
You have spoken out against antisemitism with a force and an honesty that no other Western leader has matched. You have stood with the Jewish people and with Israel when it was unpopular to do so. You have shown that you are not afraid to act decisively where others only issue statements. Where Canada offered us recognition of those who deny our right to exist, you have offered the Jewish people unwavering friendship. We believe — we know — that if any leader on earth can open a door for us, it is you.
We are exactly the people America wants.
We are not asking for charity. We are smart, educated, law-abiding people who are already here legally — Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and work-visa holders. We have built careers, companies, and families. We ask only for the chance to do the same on American soil:
We beg you to create a pathway — a Green Card route — for the lawful Jewish residents of Canada to come to the United States, to work, to contribute, to raise our children in safety, and to pay our taxes as proud future Americans.
We do not want a handout. We want a haven. We want to wake up in a country where our children can be openly Jewish without fear.
The St. Louis was turned back because no one would say "yes."
Mr. President, you can be the leader who finally says "yes." You can be the one who, when the history books are written, did what Cuba would not do, what 1939 America would not do, and what Canada would not do — opened the door.
Please. Let us come home to America.
With profound respect, gratitude, and hope,
The Jewish Community of Canada
