A Greener, More Transparent Raytheon For Southern Arizona

A Greener, More Transparent Raytheon For Southern Arizona

The Issue

Raytheon's operations have a significant impact on the environment. Raytheon has been accused of hazardous waste dumping in many more cases including when Raytheon was fined $5.3 million by the EPA for disposal of hazardous waste in Tucson like TCE which has been linked to cancer in the region. Raytheon participates in unsustainable resource consumption and habitat destructing defense and aerospace activities. Raytheon's use of fossil fuels for production has caused for lower air quality in south Tucson and surrounding regions. And instead of focusing solely on investing in greener production, Raytheon has spent millions on lobbying for laws and organizations including the EPA. Raytheon's negative environmental activities are more impactful in lower income communities and border communities in Southern Arizona.

We believe that Raytheon should invest more in sustainable projects including; elimination of untreated hazardous waste dumping, decreased fossil fuels usage for energy and investments in energy efficient utilities, investments in water conservation, and most importantly environmental reporting and transparency with organizations like the EPA Not Lobbying.

We believe Raytheon should immediately take action to prioritize environmental sustainability, increase transparency, and reduce lobbing activities. We believe that Raytheon can be a leader in the industry and respect the environments of regions their headquarters are in including Southern Arizona. Raytheon can take a step at setting a standard for environmental responsibility and transparency for all companies in the aerospace and defense market to follow.
