The issue

Recidivism rates for Aboriginal men are unacceptably high. Incarceration costs the taxpayer $120,000 per person per year and costs our Aboriginal communities much more.  In Gippsland an Aboriginal Corporation is doing their best to change things.

Warrigunya's vision is to provide a collaborative, holistic model of post release support, from a base of safe and stable housing, for Aboriginal men to enable them to readjust to life outside prison and to give them the best chance of becoming financially independent, culturally strong and not re-enter prison.

In other words, our Aboriginal not for profit corporation will provide affordable housing, access to training, healing and employment opportunities, individually tailored for Aboriginal men exiting prison.

The first stage of our building is nearly ready for use.  We urgently need operational funds from State Government.  We are calling on Aboriginal and Non Aboriginal people to help Warrigunya show the government how important this initiative really is.
