The Republic of India has undoubtedly one of the best provisions in its constitution for its citizens. Yet, it lacks the criminalisation of one of the most gruesome crimes we all know of, yet we unsee, Marital Rape. The following document consists of an essay on the roots and need for change in this area.

In a country where women are treated as goddesses, a report of almost 35K+ Rape cases (which does not involve marital rapes) is bone chilling. Criminalising marital rape is not a desire, it's a need, it's a RIGHT. As a proud citizen of a democratic nation, I use my voice and my freedom of speech for what I believe is right, for every single woman who hides under her veil and bears the brunt of a crime hidden as tradition.
