A community take on the fragile state of Fortnite Battle Royale storytelling

A community take on the fragile state of Fortnite Battle Royale storytelling
Le problème
A message from part of the community aimed at all stakeholders in Fortnite Battle Royale.
Fortnite represents, in many ways, the symbol of the symbiosis between a passionate community and dedicated developers, and today it is this certain force that we aspire to mobilize.
Over the years, Fortnite has stood out for its narrative, its story. Its continuity formed a whole, a first and essential component of the game, which even influenced the gameplay, until Chapter 4.
We welcome the recent initiatives deployed to continue this story: which involve audio quests, NPCs and their description. These means, certainly pleasant, coherent and entertaining, are laudable, but in our eyes, remain insufficient and very fragile.
We believe that since Chapter 4, and since the departure of former Fortnite Chief Creative Officer Donald Mustard, the story has been relegated to the background, losing its substance.
In fact, this was characterized by an absence of a singular and continuous plot, with independent plots specific to each season, a neglect of events related to the story, a reduction in the duration of cinematic trailers ( since Chapter 5), or even an absence of external media to follow said story (comics in particular).
However, this narrative framework formed the salt of the game, its beauty, its magic. More than one were amazed by the takeoff of a rocket, the fight of a robot against a monster, even an extraterrestrial extraction.
Dear Epic executives, we sincerely express our gratitude for all the efforts made to maintain the excellence of Fortnite. If the game is still standing, and in such good shape, it is thanks to your genius actions and talents.
But it is clear that the narration has been abandoned in favor of other major Fortnite games including LEGO® Fortnite, Fortnite Festival and Rocket Racing, whose efforts we salute on these games. We are aware of the challenges of implementing such systems, but neglecting the narrative aspect would be detrimental.
Yours faithfully, The community.
