As of today, this petition has grown to 3,121 signatures — 3,121 voices asking for sincere reconsideration to keep the Fort Logan Hospital Birthing Spa open. This growth is powerful, and it reflects just how deeply this decision affects our community.
Today (January 19th, 2026), FOX 56 News met briefly with a couple of expecting mothers between 1–2 PM and captured some concerns surrounding the sudden closure announcement. While we are grateful for the coverage, several important concerns shared by mothers and families were not included in the final segment, and they deserve to be heard.
At the heart of this issue is a simple but powerful need: women want to be heard. We want our healthcare system (EMRMC) to show us that our voices matter, that our concerns are understood, and that our choices are fully respected. Expecting mothers should be able to remain with the providers they trust — the same providers who have supported them from the very beginning of their pregnancies — and continue with the birth plans they carefully made. For many, the sudden changes at Fort Logan threaten the ability to make these same choices, leaving families uncertain and anxious during a time that should feel safe and supported. All we are asking for is acknowledgment, reconsideration, dialogue, and reassurance that our needs and voices are valued as patients in this system.
One of the mothers who spoke alongside me shared that she had relocated her home specifically to be in close proximity to the Fort Logan Birthing Spa due to her history and risks. Her story deeply resonated with my own experience.
Before this pregnancy even came to be, I met with my providers to fully understand my options and the care that would be available to me — especially given new risks that were not present in my prior pregnancies. The ability to labor and deliver at Fort Logan Hospital, with my entire trusted care team in the most natural way possible, was a determining factor in moving forward with this pregnancy. That continuity of care, location familiarity, and sense of safety mattered.
Now, many mothers — myself included — feel forced away from birth plans that were thoughtfully and intentionally made from the very beginning of pregnancy. These plans were built on trust, careful consideration, and the understanding that Fort Logan would remain available for labor and delivery.
It is also important to recognize that many facilities have guidelines that may prevent women from transferring care later in pregnancy, which can significantly limit their options. For some mothers, this change may mean losing access to the choices they believed were secure early on. These concerns are not hypothetical — they are real and deeply personal.
First and foremost, this petition is not slowing down. We are actively working on printed flyers with a QR code that will allow community members to easily scan, sign, and share their voices. These flyers will be placed throughout our community and surrounding counties so that families can add their signatures and share their experiences and stories sometime this week.
Another critical concern that was not mentioned publicly is the impact this change will have on our Amish community. Many Amish families rely on Fort Logan Hospital due to its proximity and trusted care. Because many do not use modern technology, they are unable to sign this petition — yet their needs, worries, and fears are very real. As expecting mothers ourselves, we cannot help but think about how this change affects families who depend on this nearby facility.
During his interview with FOX 56, Dr. Miller shared that providers will continue to care for their patients if mothers choose to deliver at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center (EMRMC) after February 16. It was also acknowledged, however, that the experience mothers have come to value at Fort Logan will be unmatched.
The laboring tubs in each room, the private garden, massage chairs, the calm environment, and the comfort of a small hospital staffed by familiar, award-winning, and trusted nurses are not luxuries — they are meaningful tools that support natural labor, emotional well-being, and positive birth experiences. Local mothers and mothers from across county lines have traveled intentionally to Fort Logan for this level of care, returning again and again.
Many who have signed this petition have shared concerns about increased travel time, stating that for some families, even an additional fifteen minutes could have serious implications for delivery outcomes. These concerns are rooted in lived experience and deserve thoughtful consideration.
Many in the community feel that the proposed resolution does not adequately address these concerns. With all of this in mind, the least that could be considered is adjusting the proposed closure timeline — such as moving the date back for women who are currently receiving care — until all details can be clearly and thoughtfully worked out. This would prevent reliance on a temporary solution while providers themselves remain unsure whether delivering at EMRMC will become part of their permanent practice.
This is not what our trusted providers wanted, nor what they expected. Women in this community are saddened that neither they nor their current local OB providers were invited into conversations that directly impact their care, their safety, and their birth plans prior to the announcement of the pending closure. Our providers, it seems, have agreed — out of love for their community — to continue delivering patients who choose to stay with them. Yet one cannot help but wonder how it feels for them to be separated from a place where they have done their greatest work: helping bring new life into the world.
They say home is where the heart is, and for many women, Fort Logan has been a second home during a precious time — a place as close to home as childbirth allows.
Our hearts are united as a community. We will continue to petition, to speak out, and to organize — in honor of over 3,000 voices who feel the profound devastation this announcement has brought to what should be one of the most joyous moments in a woman’s life.
Please continue to share this petition. Every voice matters. Every birth matters. Above all, our community matters — and we will continue sharing our voices without fade.
