A CALL FOR THE RESIGNATION OF THE PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA, MR BOLA AHMED TINUBU

Subject: Renewed Call for Accountability and the Resignation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
We, the concerned citizens of Nigeria, alongside members of civil society and advocates for justice and good governance, write to formally express our profound dissatisfaction and deepening alarm over the current state of the nation under the leadership of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Nigeria stands at a critical juncture. Across the country, millions of citizens are enduring unprecedented hardship. The cost of living has escalated to intolerable levels, with basic necessities such as food, transportation, housing, and healthcare becoming increasingly unaffordable. Inflation continues to erode purchasing power, wages remain stagnant, and unemployment—particularly among the youth—has reached alarming levels. Families are being forced into extreme poverty, and many now struggle daily for survival in a nation rich with resources but burdened by economic mismanagement.
Simultaneously, the security situation has deteriorated to a deeply troubling extent. Communities across various regions face relentless threats from terrorism, banditry, kidnappings, and violent crime. Citizens live in constant fear, while countless lives have been lost and livelihoods destroyed. The perceived failure to decisively confront these threats, alongside growing concerns that perpetrators are not consistently brought to justice, has severely undermined public confidence in the government’s ability to protect its people.
Equally concerning is the persistent and systemic corruption that continues to plague public institutions. Repeated allegations of embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds by political office holders and contractors have weakened trust in governance. Funds intended for national development—critical infrastructure, education systems, healthcare services, and social welfare programs—are too often diverted, leaving essential sectors underfunded and ineffective.
The healthcare system, in particular, remains in a state of crisis. Hospitals across the nation are plagued by inadequate infrastructure, shortages of essential medical supplies, and insufficient staffing. Medical professionals continue to leave the country in search of better working conditions, further straining an already fragile system. As a result, preventable diseases claim lives daily, and access to quality healthcare remains a privilege rather than a right for many Nigerians.
Moreover, there is growing frustration over the lack of transparency, accountability, and clear policy direction from the current administration. Citizens feel increasingly disconnected from leadership, with limited communication, insufficient stakeholder engagement, and a lack of visible, measurable progress on key national issues.
In light of these cumulative failures—economic hardship, insecurity, corruption, and institutional decline—we believe that the continued leadership of the current administration no longer reflects the will or welfare of the Nigerian people. Leadership is a responsibility grounded in service, trust, and accountability. When those principles are no longer upheld, it becomes necessary to demand change in the interest of national stability and progress.
Therefore, we respectfully but firmly call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resign from office. This call is not made lightly, but out of a genuine concern for the future of Nigeria and the urgent need to restore confidence in governance.
We further demand:
Immediate and transparent economic reforms aimed at reducing inflation and improving living standards
A comprehensive and decisive strategy to address insecurity nationwide
Strong anti-corruption measures with independent oversight and accountability mechanisms
Urgent investment and reform in the healthcare and education sectors
Inclusive governance that actively engages citizens and civil society in decision-making processes
Nigeria belongs to its people. The aspirations of its citizens must remain at the center of governance. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that leadership reflects integrity, competence, and an unwavering commitment to the public good.
Signed,
Concerned Citizens of Nigeria
