A call for equality and fairness for the 20th Assembly UPUA candidates

The Issue

This petition calls on the 20th Assembly of the University Park Undergraduate Association (UPUA) to critically re-evaluate the recent impeachment proceedings and uphold the constitutional values that form the foundation of our student government.

From the 15th to the 17th Assemblies, all serving Chief Justices, those most familiar with the Constitution and Bylaws of UPUA, have expressed clear concerns that the process used in recent proceedings was inequitable and inconsistent with constitutional standards. Their collective insight, drawn from years of institutional knowledge and service, should not be dismissed lightly.

Rasha Elwakil, current President of the 20th Assembly and long-time member of UPUA, has exemplified a deep commitment to empathy, student advocacy, transparency, and structural reform. Throughout her years in the organization, as Chair of Justice and Equity, Vice President, and now President, she has championed student accessibility, affordability, and inclusivity. Her leadership has always prioritized the student body and the integrity of UPUA.

It is not just her presidency that is at stake, it is the legitimacy of the very processes that govern us. When constitutional procedure is bypassed, due process is neglected, and power is exercised without transparency, the trust of the student body is jeopardized. UPUA cannot afford to send the message that fair governance is optional.

We, the undersigned, urge the Assembly to:

 - Conduct a thorough and impartial review of the impeachment proceedings,

 - Reaffirm its commitment to the UPUA Constitution and Bylaws,

 - Overturn any ruling that did not follow constitutional procedure, and

 - Ensure all future proceedings reflect the fair practices and standards expected of a student government.

This is not just about one moment or one leader, it’s about preserving the democratic principles UPUA was built on.

The 2025-2026 school year is on route to begin, and the representatives only care about what happened in past conflicts. Rasha has put blood, sweat, tears into her campaign just for it to be all taken away from her because of 28 critical votes. Votes that aren't students. Votes that weren't based on student voices but based on a person's past and representatives that don't know her story. All Rasha wants is to be there for every single student, and she truly has the compassion, leadership, and courage for it. What matters is the person that she is today, not her past, not her future, now.
