A Letter from the People and Activists of Tonn na Clé: A grassroots movement for the assemblies of citizens.

To all Political Parties, Independent Representatives, and Elected Representatives,

In this moment of profound political uncertainty and opportunity, we the citizens, volunteers, and community activists of Tonn na Clé, a grassroots movement for the assemblies of citizens are calling respectfully, clearly, and firmly for unity of purpose and maturity of leadership. 

Inspired by Catherine Connolly’s call for cooperation and collective endeavour, we believe the time has arrived for representatives across all affiliations to rise above divisions and work together for the common good.

Our communities are facing challenges that require more than partisan victories or short-term strategies. They require a shared vision grounded in fairness, transparency, social justice, and environmental responsibility. They require leadership that listens deeply, speaks honestly, and acts courageously. They require a politics that places people, not politics at the centre.

We are asking for collaborative leadership and constructive, open engagement between all political parties, independent representatives, and community voices. We urge you to embrace this opportunity to unify around policy, vision, and delivery. Let us move away from personality-driven politics and instead build momentum around solutions: solutions that are evidence-based, community-informed, and guided by long-term responsibility for humanity, society and environment.

This is not a moment for fragmentation. It is a moment for alliance and finding new ways of working together.

Our movement, Tonn na Clé, recognises a unique opportunity in the current political landscape. A groundswell of democratic energy is building which is peaceful, people-powered, and committed to change. But for this movement to succeed, it must be strengthened by cooperation, coherence, and a willingness from all representatives to engage respectfully with each other and with the public.

We ask you to meet this moment with openness.

We ask you to set aside old antagonisms.

We ask you to act with integrity, courage, and maturity.

We believe in a politics where leadership is not measured by who shouts the loudest, but by who listens the most; not by division, but by collaboration; not by fear, but by hope.

As citizens of this democracy, we stand ready to play our part, constructively, peacefully, and with determination. We ask our public representatives to do the same.

Let us show what is possible when vision, unity, and the voice of the people to guide the way forward.

A chairde, i ngach páirtí polaitiúil, Ionadaithe Neamhspleácha agus na Ionadaithe Tofa uile,

San am seo ina bhfuil éiginnteacht agus deis mhór pholaitiúil ag teacht le chéile, tá muidne na saoránaigh, na hoibrithe deonacha agus na gníomhaithe pobail i dTonn na Clé, gluaiseacht ón mbun aníos ar son Tionóil Shaoránaí, ag impí oraibh go measúil, go soiléir agus go daingean ar son cuspóir amháin agus ceannaireacht aibí a chur chun tosaigh.

Gairm glao Catherine Connolly chun comhoibrithe agus oibre le chéile sinn, agus creidimid go bhfuil sé in am anois d’ionadaithe de gach saghas agus gach cleamhnas seasamh os cionn na deighilte agus oibriú as lámha a chéile ar mhaithe le leas an phobail.

Tá dúshláin romhainn sa phobal nach sásaíonn bua páirtí ná straitéis ghearrthéarmach. Tá fís chomhroinnte de dhíth, fís atá bunaithe ar chóir, ar thrédhearcacht, ar chearta sóisialta agus ar fhreagracht don chomhshaol. Tá ceannaireacht de dhíth a éisteann go domhain, a labhraíonn go macánta agus a ghníomhaíonn go misniúil. Tá polaitíocht de dhíth ina gcuirtear daoine, seachas an pholaitíocht féin, i gcroílár gach cinnte.

Táimid ag iarraidh oraibh ceannaireacht chomhmharthanach agus comhoibriú oscailte tógálach idir gach páirtí polaitiúil, gach ionadaí neamhspleách agus guthanna an phobail. Iarraimid oraibh an deis seo a thapú chun teacht le chéile ar son polasaí, ar son fís agus ar son gnímh. Éalaímis ón bpolaitíocht atá tiomáinte ag pearsantacht agus tógimis fuinneamh timpeall ar réitigh, réitigh atá bunaithe ar fhianaise, ar eolas pobail agus ar fhreagracht fhadtéarmach.

Ní tráth é seo le haghaidh scarthúlachta. Is tráth é le teacht le chéile.

Aithníonn Tonn na Clé gur deis ar leith atá sa tírdhreach polaitiúil faoi láthair. Tá borradh daonlathach ag éirí, borradh síochánta, borradh atá á thiomáint ag daoine agus atá dírithe ar athnuachan. Ach chun go n-éireoidh leis an ngluaiseacht seo, caithfear í a neartú le comhoibriú, le comhsheasmhacht agus le toil ó gach ionadaí dul i mbun cainte le chéile agus leis an bpobal ar bhealach measúil.

Iarraimid oraibh an tráthré seo a fhreagairt le hoscailteacht.

Iarraimid oraibh sean-constaicí a chur i leataobh.

Iarraimid oraibh gníomhú le hionracas, le misneach agus le haibíocht.

Creidimid i bpolaitíocht ina dtomhaistear ceannaireacht, ní de réir an té is airde glór, ach de réir an té is fearr éisteachta; ní de réir na deighilte, ach de réir an chomhoibrithe; ní de réir na faitíosa, ach de réir an dóchais.

Mar shaoránaigh sa daonlathas seo, táimid réidh le cur lenár gcuid oibre, go tógálach, go síochánta agus le dúthracht. Iarraimid ar ár n-ionadaithe poiblí an rud céanna a dhéanamh.

Taispeánaimis céard is féidir a bhaint amach nuair a bhíonn fís, aontacht agus guth an phobail mar threoir againn.
