A BAIT DOG’S STORY: HELP END ANIMAL CRUELTY

# A Bait Dog Story: Help End Animal Cruelty
Imagine being tied to a tree.
You can't run. You can't fight back. You don't understand why the people around you are cheering.
Other dogs are released and forced to attack you over and over again. Every bite tears your skin. Every second brings more fear and pain. When it's over, you're left bleeding, broken, terrified, and alone.
This is the reality of a bait dog.
Bait dogs are used by dog fighters as living targets to train aggressive fighting dogs. They are often stolen pets, gentle family dogs, or helpless strays. Many have their mouths taped shut, their teeth broken, or their legs tied so they cannot defend themselves. Those who survive are left with horrific injuries and emotional scars that may never heal.
And yet, despite everything they have endured, many still wag their tails when a kind person reaches out. After all the pain, fear, and betrayal they have suffered at the hands of humans, they somehow find the strength to trust again.
If they can find it in their hearts to forgive us, surely we can find it in ours to protect them.
No living creature deserves this.
Protecting animals also helps protect our communities.
Research has shown that intentional acts of animal cruelty can be a warning sign of other violent behavior. Law enforcement, psychologists, and prosecutors have long recognized that some individuals who intentionally torture animals may also engage in violence against people. Taking animal cruelty seriously is not only about protecting innocent animals—it is also about recognizing dangerous behavior early and creating safer communities for everyone.
Animals have stood beside humanity throughout history. They have served with our military during times of war, searched for survivors after disasters, worked beside law enforcement, guided those with disabilities, protected our homes, comforted us through grief, and loved us without conditions. They give us everything they have, asking for nothing more than kindness in return.
They cannot ask for help
They cannot testify in court.
They cannot tell anyone what was done to them.
They depend entirely on us to be their voice.
That is why I am asking you to stand with me. I am petitioning for stronger animal cruelty laws, tougher penalties for those who abuse animals, and greater protection for the innocent lives that cannot protect themselves.
Every signature sends a message that our society will no longer tolerate cruelty. Together, we can create a future where those who torture animals are held fully accountable and where fewer innocent animals suffer unimaginable pain.
Please sign this petition and share it with your family, friends, and community. One signature may seem small, but thousands of voices together can create lasting change.
Their silence is our responsibility.
