90,000 Pune Residents Facing 8-Hour Power Cuts – Urgent Action Needed in Wagholi

90,000 Pune Residents Facing 8-Hour Power Cuts – Urgent Action Needed in Wagholi
The Issue
Affected Population: ~90,000 residents
Wagholi, one of Pune’s fastest-growing residential hubs, is facing frequent and prolonged power outages—often lasting 5–8 hours, almost every alternate week.
Despite being within PMC limits, Wagholi continues to receive power supply from the Lonikand (Rural) feeder, located ~10 km away. A major portion of this line passes through Panchayat areas, resulting in:
Frequent HT cable faults
Delayed fault detection due to manual patrolling
Restoration delays exceeding 5 hours
No functional backfeeding for the past 6 months
This affects nearly 90,000 consumers, including 40,000+ IT professionals working from home—causing serious disruption to livelihoods, education, and daily life.
⚖️ This situation is not just inconvenient—it violates consumer rights under the Electricity Act, 2003 and MERC Standards of Performance, which mandate reliable and timely power supply.
📢 Our Demands
We, the residents of Wagholi, urge the Government of Maharashtra and MSEDCL to take immediate action:
Shift PMC Ward 3 from Lonikand (Rural) feeder to Vishrantwadi (Urban) section
Shift PMC Ward 4 from Lonikand feeder to Vadgaonsheri (Urban) feeders
Restore backfeeding infrastructure immediately
Conduct a technical audit and implement a time-bound reliability plan.
