$851.79 FOR TRANSIT? STUDENTS DESERVE A FAIR CHOICE.
The Issue
Transparency • Fairness • Student Choice
We Demand Fairness and Transparency for St. Clair's $851.79 Transit Fee
Students deserve a choice. Families deserve transparency.
St. Clair College students are being charged $851.79 for a mandatory annual transit pass.
We understand the value of public transportation. Many students rely on Transit Windsor every day.
But not every student uses the bus.
Some students drive. Some purchase a separate college parking pass. Some live outside the Transit Windsor service area. Others have transportation arrangements that make the pass unnecessary.
St.Clair College has designated a deadline to opt-out by September 30th, 2026. They claim that the 40% Cap on opt-out availability arrived on September 18th. They then disabled the link.
Once that limit was reached, an otherwise eligible student is then required to pay the full $851.79. They have since denied refunds to eligible students, and have stated that there is no way to appeal.
We believe that needs to change.
We are asking St. Clair College, the Student Representative Council, Transit Windsor and the City of Windsor to:
✊ REMOVE (OR REASSESS) THE 40% OPT-OUT CAP
✊ GUARANTEE A FAIR OPT-OUT PROCESS FOR ELIGIBLE STUDENTS
✊ PROVIDE FULL TRANSPARENCY ABOUT WHERE THE $851.79 GOES/HAS GONE
✊ EXPLAIN HOW THE FEE AND 40% LIMIT WERE DETERMINED
✊ GIVE STUDENTS CLEAR, COMPLETE INFORMATION BEFORE FUTURE TRANSIT AGREEMENTS ARE APPROVED
This is not about eliminating public transit.
It is about making sure students who depend on transit continue to have access while students who do not use the service are treated fairly.
$851.79 is a significant amount of money.
Students and families deserve to understand what they are paying for, where their money goes, and why an eligible student can lose the ability to opt out simply because a percentage has already been reached.
St.Clair College charges the highest rate for Transit users. The University of Windsor charges $316.48 for 1st and 2nd year students, while 3rd and 4th year students are charged $203.14.
Students deserve a fair choice.
Students deserve transparency.
Students deserve to have their voices heard.
Sign this petition and help us demand a fairer SaintsPASS system.
