I’ll make this brief … if you are reading this then you already know that the serious manpower shortage at NOpD is a main contributing factor for the current unsafe New Orleans streets … This is a FACT. And for New Orleans leadership to continue to blow this off … the word irresponsible comes to mind.
Of course, many hours of long meetings have taken place. Lots and lots of talking … Accountability is the theme … everybody is going to be accountable … but when you are understaffed well it makes it difficult to be accountable. It’s time to get loud and that takes voices - your signature is the voice that carries weight. Your signature is key. And getting your friends and family to join our call for New Orleans Safe is a life saving act.
We need more signatures.
Currently New Orleanians are going to Jefferson Parish and St. Bernard Parish to do business because it is so precarious right now - from the school pickup line and going to run errands to gassing up, New Orleanians are under siege. This is absolutely unacceptable. There is no economic stability if citizens leave New Orleans to spend their hard earned dollars in neighboring Parishes. And if New Orleans continues the trends of out of control carjackings , robbery and crime what about the tourism dollars? - basically our leading industry .. where many middle class folks earn a living.
The Mayor, DA, City Council and Police Superintendent’s plan - for leadership to do their jobs - IS NOT a PLAN. Announcing that folks need to be accountable is a BRUSH OFF TACTIC.
La National Guard troops paired with NOPD officers to patrol our neighborhoods - this doubling and tripling safety presence in our neighborhoods is a PLAN. The New Orleans Safe Plan is a key compliment if an immediate plan for safety is to take place and the optics are very good. Because safe neighborhoods is the only optic citizens care about. If not this then what?
Our Mayor has security. NOpD are armed. Seems like all citizens and all neighborhoods deserve this as well.
Over the next few days we could double our voices if each of you could ask just one person to sign our petition for New Orleans Safe. It’s your names that add power to the voice of reason … bring in reinforcements from the La National Guard or citizens will be affected like …
The recent Costco carjacking where driver is dragged 40 feet sustaining life threatening injuries - just getting gas.
If our neighborhoods aren’t safe how can citizens enjoy New Orleans? Heck, the NoPD officers we have won’t pick up the overtime “duty” to work the first Mardi Gras parade of the season … this was supposed to be New Orleans’ time to shine - to recover.
Shortening parade routes because there aren’t enough officers to work Mardi Gras —really? Doesn’t sound like a plan. Sounds like a failure.
with National Guard manpower we can do Mardi Gras, French Quarter Fest, Jazzfest , Conventions, daily life and keep our New Orleans Safe … without it … another anxious weekend.
If not this, then what?
