It’s been a few weeks and still no update from our police chief. Mayor Cantrell says she has full confidence … but in what? So on Wednesday they will present a plan … and we wait … with that being said … 

I’m not going to take up too much time here . Your signing of this petition means you KnOW there is a real public safety issue. You KnoW that we need more officers. You KnOW  arrests and prosecution needs to step up. And you KnOW NOLA’s  public safety systems are broken. 

All along we’ve advocated for more manpower to assist NOpD - that’s real support for our officers. The fact that 3200 of us said we support bringing in the Guard so NOpD has manpower is real engagement and community support . Absent of The Guard coming there has been no plan or suggestion to increase patrols that fill the number of vacant positions needed to fully patrol our neighborhoods 24 hours. We are still in a manpower crisis … and cherry picking from other agencies for the very few post-certified employees bother causes shortages from the levee board and university campuses to tye sheriff’s office. It’s not viable. But our plan is … do you care about safety or do you care about “how it looks”?  

But This petition is not just for NOPD. This petition is advocating for  what every citizen deserves - safe streets, safe neighborhoods and a safe city that is economically viable. 

We don’t have safety now … and we don’t have a plan from our leaders … maybe tomorrow?

P.S.  I could not find the link for the Mayor’s Safety press conference on Wednesday … I’ll be looking for it in nola.com and nola.gov and am hoping there will be some news from council …
