Central Bangalore has no Veterinary hospital and the only one GoK recently built is lying underleveraged and unused. The new ‘super specialty’ Queens Vet Hospital must be made 24/7, well-staffed and equipped.
Trees, heritage buildings and an existing ABC centre were to be destroyed at historic Queens Vet Hospital to make Bangalore's first super-speciality vet facility. Yet over 2 years later, we citizens have nothing to show for this sacrifice. The promised top range facilities, a range of medicines, and the confirmed allotment of 35 vet surgeons & specialists are on paper. Nothing has been done to fulfil the basic vision it was set out for, using tax payers money. We had an ill young dog yesterday, and we kept calling but could do nothing as it was 6 pm. The vets had left and were regretful. We managed to get her some basic care, but the dog tragically died in the night. We citizens had a close by central facility built with good intention and tax payers money, but could neither use it nor access it – we are gutted. How many dogs & animals have met the same fate in the heart of the city? WHY? It is a shame that we citizens are being forced to use private hospitals at our cost for ownerless animals.
WHY is the government dragging its feet on this issue ? There is only a basic hospital with 9-5 timings, only three vets and very basic functional medicines and facilities. Most patients are requested to get blood tests, xrays, medicines and material from outside. There is not much footfalls, and the 3 ambulances allotted to this facility do not seem to be there or accessible. Even ABC is not being done here. There seems to be a problem with water, disposal of waste and basic security. Don't us citizens and animals deserve basic medical facilities? The Department of Animal Husbandry MUST Staff and equip its 'super specialty' hospital as promised and explain and correct its delay to the citizens. None of its other clinics are of much use either. Letters remain unanswered.
In addition, where is all the infrastructure promised? Bangalore lacks basic facilities like a centrifuge , plasma separator, canine blood bank, ultrasound , X-ray and many others required for pets and small animals . With the much touted superspecialty vet hospital coming up on the Heritage Vet Hospital grounds on Queens Road, its important to create a hygienic world class structure & for Bangalore’s pet lovers to have access to equipment to save animal’s lives. Otherwise this new facility would be a waste , considering that we already have a large Vet Hospital in Hebbal.

Chennai & Delhi already have a few good facilities in place and we need to really have something that caters to world class city like Bangalore more adequately and in a future-proof way .What is Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Sciences Department at Bangalore waiting for ? Please action and list this in the upcoming BBMP Council meeting, so our city funds are utilised for the intended animals. Thank you , on behalf of the voiceless animals.
