 – Who is impacted?
Rizvan Rastogor, a 20-year-old with no prior criminal record, was sentenced to 40 years in prison for a tragedy that occurred in 2022, when he was 17.  He was a kind-hearted young man, a musician, athlete, and devoted son, who acted to defend himself and others in a moment of chaos. This verdict has devastated an entire family — Azerbaijani immigrants who have lived peacefully in the U.S. for over two decades. His mother, siblings, and community are shattered by the belief that justice was not served.

– What is at stake?
If nothing is done, a young life full of potential may be lost forever. Rizvan may spend the next 25 years behind bars before even being considered for parole. But if the case is reviewed fairly on appeal, there is a chance to correct the injustice, to weigh the facts properly, and to consider his age and the circumstances under which he acted. Without action, this sets a dangerous precedent — where self-defense by a minor leads to a lifetime of punishment.

– Why is now the time to act?
The sentence has already been handed down. We are in a narrow window to appeal — and we cannot do it alone. The family has exhausted their resources and urgently needs public support to fund the legal process. We ask for your help now, while there is still time to make a difference.
