VoteBrussels: Volunteer for 2024 local election campaign!

Dear 1bru1Vote supporter,
Do you have a few hours to volunteer this May and June to help make Brussels the most cosmopolitan democracy in the world?
Sign up now to volunteer with our new campaign!
The fight for Brussels democracy is long, but transformative. Our successful 1bru1Vote petition secured a resolution from the Parliament of the Brussels Region to fight long-term for a regional right to vote. And our 2018 VoteBrussels campaign helped to double the number of international voters for the 2018 communal elections. During the 2018 local elections, 25 EU citizen candidates were elected across the 19 communes and across the political spectrum. A majority of Francophone political parties and Brussels Flemish parties now support introducing a regional right to vote and a more automatic voter registration for local elections.
Equally important is the hard work of grassroots community-building to reach potential international voters. Voters and politicians alike need to see that international voters, their contributions and their ideas can make Brussels democracy work better for everyone. Most internationals have not signed up to vote for the local elections because they did not get the right information on how to sign up easily and why their vote matters.
That’s why 1bru1Vote is launching our new VoteBrussels Campaign with the Brussels Region to offer volunteer trainings, information sessions and our touring "voting box" presentations in May and June, ahead of the 31 July voter registration deadline for the 13 October local elections. International voters could be one third of all voters—nearly 300,000 voters—in these local elections, where city councilors are usually elected with only a few hundred votes. We have more power and more political choices at local level in Belgium than nearly anywhere else in Europe, and a lot could change in Brussels with this year’s close elections.
Will you join our international community of volunteers to register your friends, family, neighbours and colleagues?
First step: Sign up for our newsletter and volunteer training. You’re invited to our online and in-person trainings in late April & early May on why, how & what to do for voter registration. After that, you can invite us to your organisation, office or neighborhood. We’ll also connect you with other volunteers of your same commune and nationality to brainstorm activities online and offline.
Can we count on you to sign up for Brussels democracy? Sign up here
