Provide safe passage for Africans and all People of Colour out of Ukraine
Provide safe passage for Africans and all People of Colour out of Ukraine
The Issue
We are requesting that any government or world agency expressing solidarity with the suffering of Ukrainian citizens also acknowledge and act upon, the racism being reported by African, Caribbean, Indian and all people of coIour seeking refuge from the war.
We need to ensure that there is safe passage for everyone and this includes all people of colour. The UN Convention states that all who flee a conflict situation have the same right to safe passage.
There are widespread reports across national newspapers as well as live footage on social media showing the situation at the borders where people of colour are being blocked from fleeing to safety.
"In the train stations here in Kyiv, children first, women second, white men third, then the remaining is occupied by Africans. This means that we have waited for many hours for trains here and couldn't enter because of this." @nzekiev (reported in The Independent newspaper 27/02/22)
It is critical that those with voice and influence use it to make a stance on this issue and demonstrate their commitment to the protection, and value, of all peoples' lives - regardless of race.
