The Issue

Hi my name is Alijah White, I am currently a junior at Wauwatosa East High School, along with numerous other students who share the same problem, shows the distressed voices of students affected by regular parking tickets while attending Wauwatosa East. Over the past year, I've experienced multiple instances where tickets were issued due to the 3-hour limit for street parking around our school. The inability to leave school premises to move our vehicles during class hours shows the urgency for a solution.

In the light of these adversities, I would like to propose the introduction of a $100-student parking permit to allow us to park on the street without the risk of receiving a ticket. This practical solution will relieve students financial and mental strain and create a healthy school environment focusing on the academic goals at hand.

Parking is a common issue among schools across the nation. According to the 2019 report by the Journal of Transport Geography, students list parking availability as one of their top stressors. The time spent searching for parking or moving cars to avoid fines interrupts the study and learning process. By providing a reasonable parking permit system, schools can address this issue head on and prioritize student well being.

I would like to kindly request the city of Wauwatosa to consider our proposal for the establishment of a $100 student parking permit. This permit shall grant the right  to all students to park their vehicles on the street for an unlimited duration during regular school hours. Help us shift our focus from parking tickets to educational productivity by supporting me in advocating for this change. I urge you to sign this petition.
