Why this petition matters

Started by Eliza Taylor

I know I'm not the only parent battling the educational system because of lack or resources/staff/ understanding.

Here's our story and why it's so important to sign this petition.

My son is 7 and a half, since he was about 15 months he began with aggressive behaviours, couldn't speak, couldn't communicate other than by hitting, biting or any other behaviours.

When he started pre school, it was made clear that he had severe global delay and traits of autism. This was the start of a long battle, between me, professionals and Thomas to get him the right support, when he started reception, his behaviours were so elevated that he was a danger to himself and to others, he was threatened with exclusion at the age of 4! Because the school didn't know how to deal with his behaviours. This was dealt with further within the school and thankfully didn't get excluded but there were days when I'd have to go and collect him because the staff didn't know how to support him and he would end up just becoming more and more destressed.

In 2019 we moved back to where I grew up, he started a new school, but due to his delay he was still in reception/year 1. The class teacher and 1:1 support went above and beyond to support Thomas and he just grew and grew and grew, he can now speak in full sentences and he can ask for things he wants, he spends full time in a mainstream school now and he loves every second. He's in year 3 now and I do feel the 100% support he received in year 1 and year 2 is faded and the staff don't understand Thomas properly. It's a battle every year with the school but the school can only do with what funding they get.

The reason for my petition is that my story is just one story, there are several others stories who need support, let's get this shared so we can support every SEN child in mainstream so they can achieve their best achievements after all it's about our children.

Thank-you, please share. SEN parents you're not alone. ❤️❤️❤️
